Illawarra Coaches Sharpen Their Skills at Warilla
The WBNSW coaching support sessions continued at Warilla Bowls & Recreation Club last week with Bowls Australia RBM, Nick Hind, hosting nearly 20 accredited and aspiring coaches from around the Illawarra and Shoalhaven regions, including international players Peter Bonsor and Jeremy Henry.
The sessions have been designed to provide a forum for coaches to get together to share ideas, skills and experience around coaching, with all the participants leaving the day with smiles and new motivation to see the coaching of bowls lifted across the sport.
Men and ladies from as far afield as Corrimal, Windang, Kiama and Sussex Inlet enjoyed an hour presentation and discussion on motivation, skills, coaching styles and the benefits of having quality coaching.
The participants then enjoyed a session on the indoor green learning some of the skills and techniques involved in coaching primary school students with the Junior Jack Attack kits before heading outside to practice and gain experience using a full green of drills designed to teach and improve players ability across a range of skills and shots.
Many thanks to the club at Warilla for providing an excellent venue and greens. If your club or coaches in your region would like to be involved please contact Women’s Bowls NSW or your Regional Bowls Manager to organise a session.
